In which I am a Wuss

I am scared of oncoming traffic. I didn't realize this until I spent 10 months away from it...and then this summer on our road trip I was reminded of how much I dislike oncoming traffic. I'm afraid that the other driver will swerve at the last moment and hit me head-on; or at least that he'll mis-judge his lane position and swipe off my mirror or something. Seriously, as I drive along some nearly-deserted road in northern Canada, each and every vehicle I approach makes my heart pound just a little...

I'm also scared that when I open the oven to get out something, the oven door will flip up and burn my arm. I think I may have known someone who had this happen to them, but I confess I'm not sure. I just know that I always make sure to set the door all the way down before I start reaching in (I never reach in with it open halfway).

Of course I have real, deep, valid sorts of fears too...but they are not so quirky.
(For more 'quirky thursday' entries, in which I confess my weirdness to all of you, click here)

C'mon now, it's your turn. What silly things are you scared of?

I am also afraid of the oven door thing! How funny. I hate touching food or food touching me, unless I have to, as in, making bread. It causes me no small amount of anxiety to 1) let my toddler feed herself, 2) let food get on her person, 3) have to get food on me to clean her up. Silly.

Spiders in the bath tub. And when I was little I was afraid to sit on the toilet because of Ghostbusters 2. I thought slime would come up and get my butt. And then when we had lots of earwigs, I was always afraid they would be on the toilet seat and crawl onto my butt, so I would always check the seat before sitting down. I'm still cautious about sitting on the toilet- I always wonder if I checked well enough.

Silly, huh?

I don't like clutter. It makes me cranky and nervous. I don't know if that counts as a fear, but it's almost impossible for me to walk out the front door if my house is a mess.

I know. I need therapy.

I hear you with the oncoming traffic thing. When I was a child, coming home from an outing with my family, there was a vehicle driving toward us on a divided highway!!! They didn't hit us, but it was still scary! I am also afraid of the oven door! One of my other weird fears is calling people (I hate calling anyone except my parents/sisters/husband).

I'm afraid of the over door and irons suddenly flopping over (I got burned while trying to reach past one once...)

But I'm mostly afraid of tape measures. As in the metal ones that zip back into the holding. I knew someone who cut their knee open when it zipped back in. Several family members let their kids play with them as toys and I freak out.

I'm also afraid of throwing my keys into the dumpster, but you've already read the post on that...
