Works In Progress
~or~
stuff I do when I'm not blogging...
and yeah, there's been a lot of it lately!

A sweater I'm knitting for Bear
(top down--how exciting! also my first project that's actually bigger than a hat...)

A felted hat for me--made from lots of scraps of other things.

washable (cotton) tampons! They roll up for use, but unroll so they get really clean in the wash. This photo doesn't show it very well, but there are some short rows on the end so that it 'caps' the roll, making it easy to use. They are SO soft, and of course eco-friendly and all that jazz. ☺ I'm so excited about these--I tried the prototype a couple of weeks ago and am now sending a few to some friends who have volunteered to be additional test subjects...if they like them as much as I do then I'll be offering them in my shop in the very near future...

You can also find me on ravelry...I don't get over there a ton, but I do check in from time to time and put in photos of what I'm making!! (and hey, if you're there too, be my ravelry friend, ok?!)

By the way, I still prefer to purl (all these projects are being done inside out ☺), but I did finally learn to knit straight...I dunno what I was doing (I always twisted my knit stitches for some reason) but I finally knit 'normally' now. And Wolf wanted to learn how to knit, so I've been teaching him. He's pretty good!

Are you a continental knitter? I found out I was purling backwards and am actually considered a "combination" knitter. It's easy to be a combination knitter if you knit continental style. There's a group on ravelry for combination knitters.

Oh, that is fun! I just learned how to crochet. I like it better than knitting! I just made hats for the whole family (for Halloween costumes) and I am working on a skirt for myself! But, the little guy is getting kind of snot-nosed, so I may have to put it on hold for a while because mommy is in high demand.

I'm still loving my hat you made me! And I'm so excited that the weather is now cool enough to wear it again!

I think that's funny about your backwards stitches, but totally understandable. I'm a lefty and NO one could teach me how to crochet except my grandma. I couldn't even get the chain stitch down. My grandma watched me struggle for an hour (getting only a few inches of chain done!) and suddenly realized, duh! Let's teach her backwards! I'm also the one who has been assigned to teach my nephew to tie his shoes because he's also a lefty.

Quick question on selling tampons. (I think yours are cool, by the way.) Do you worry about the legalities of being sued? I just know that commercial tampons have to carry the TSS warning, so do you, as an etsy seller, have to have any kind of indemnity policy? Can you tell I live in CA, the land of the litigious?

I looked at a book that showed 'combination' and 'continental' knitting diagrams ("Confessions of a Knitting Heretic") and I was neither...I don't know what i am, besides a wee bit loony!

Mae,
I don't think most folks buying stuff on etsy are going to be very litigation happy...I mean, go ahead and sue me, I have no money!! LOL. That said, i would put a comment in the item descriptions about how TSS is always a danger, so use your brain when using this product ;) :p (no I would not word it quite like that, LOL!) I don't know if I *have* to do that, but I would.

Oh, and your hat is a classic example of my backwards knitting--the ridging of it? Yeah, that's cuz the stitches are twisted. :)

A video might be helpful in diagnosing the way you knit!
